Scholarships For College Students

Bill and Sue Modrak Scholarship

The Bill and Sue Modrak Scholarship has been established to award scholarships to Modrak McDonald’s current employees, or dependents and grandchildren of current employees.

Scholarship Amount: 4 scholarships in the values $2,500 or 5 scholarships in the values of $2,000
Number of Awards: At least four (4)
Eligibility: Current employee at a Modrak McDonald’s, or a dependent or grandchild of a current McDonald’s employee. Must be a current high school senior or returning college student with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. For additional requirements, see application.

D.J. and Rose Nidetz Scholarship

Established to provide scholarship opportunities for high school seniors or college undergraduate students who have participated in productions for member theaters of the Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theater Foundation.

Scholarship Amount: $500
Number of Awards: One (1)
Eligibility: The student’s chosen field of study is the arts (i.e., art, music, theater, dance) and has been involved in a Community Theater production with a current NIETF Theater.

Fred and Louise Latshaw Scholarship

Established by the Board of Directors of Legacy Foundation to provide scholarships for employees nonprofit agencies that have an endowment fund with Legacy Foundation.

Scholarship Amount: $1,000 (renewable)
Number of Awards: up to two (2)
Eligibility: The scholarship is for someone who is pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.

John V. and George Primich Family Scholarship

Established in 2005, benefits the children or grandchildren of current employees of G.W. Berkheimer Co. and South Central.

Scholarship Amount: Minimum of $2,500
Number of Awards: Dependent on number of applicants
Eligibility: Children or grandchildren of current employees of G.W. Berkheimer Co. and South Central.

The Good Teachers Count Scholarship

This award is intended to financially aid a person who is currently enrolled at a college or university in northwest Indiana and is planning to be a teacher.

Scholarship Amount: $1,000
Number of Awards: Up to two (2) each year
Eligibility: Must be a resident of Lake County, Indiana and a citizen of the United States and has completed at least 50% of the credit hours needed to earn a bachelor's or master's degree in a teaching program.

Lake County Bar Association Scholarship

Established to award scholarships to law students who are permanent residents of Lake County, Indiana.

Scholarship Amount: up to $1,750
Number of Awards: varies
Eligibility: Current law student who is a permanent resident of Lake County, Indiana
Deadline: Fall of every year
Application: Available on the Lake County Bar Association website www.lakecountybar.com


Legends Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student who is attending one of the six educational institutions in Northwest Indiana (see application). It is based upon the four values of the Welcome Center's "Celebrate Northwest Indiana Wall": exploration, courage, creativity and innovation.

Scholarship Amount: $1,000
Number of Awards: One (1)
Eligibility: Enrolled in one of these six educational institutions in Northwest
Indiana: Calumet College of St. Joseph, Indiana University Northwest, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana Northwest, Purdue University Calumet, Purdue University North Central, and Valparaiso University; and completed at least 12 credit hours.

William J. Moran Indiana University Maurer School of Law Scholarship

Established to provide scholarship for 2nd or 3rd year students at Indiana University Law School in Bloomington who graduated from a high school in Lake, Porter or LaPorte County Indiana.

Scholarship Amount: $1,000
Number of Awards: One (1)
Eligibility: Based on academic standing and financial need
Deadline: June 1

Roger Begnoche Scholarship

Established to encourage a young man to pursue a career in nursing or education. This scholarship was named for a mentor and coach.

Scholarship Amount: $4,000 per year
Number of Awards: At least one (1) per year
Eligibility: A male resident of Indiana who has been accepted as a full-time or part-time student in a school of nursing or pursuing a degree in education at Purdue University Calumet, Indiana University Northwest, Calumet College of St. Joseph, Ivy Tech, or University of St. Francis; these applicants will be given preference in the selection process.
