2013 Lilly Endowment Scholarship Recipients
Barbara Miller Meeker Art Scholarship
The purpose is to provide a scholarship for a student who is a graduating senior at Munster High School or Highland High School and will be pursuing a degree in the visual arts or architecture. The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Scholarship Amount: $500
Number of Awards: One (1)
Eligibility: Munster or Highland High School senior who will pursue a career in the visual arts.

Bi-Centennial Memorial Scholarship
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year on a rotating basis to a student from each of the four high schools in Hammond.
Scholarship Amount: $1,000
Number of Awards: One (1)
Eligibility: Graduating high school senior from a Hammond high school who will be admitted as a full-time student at an accredited college, university, vocational school or junior college for the fall term following high school graduation; must be in the upper one-third of the graduating class.

BP Products North America Scholarship
A student who has been nominated for but not selected as a Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient will be eligible for this award.
Scholarship Amount: $2,000 for tuition and $500 for books (renewable)
Number of Awards: One or two per year
Eligibility: The award will be given to a student who has a demonstrated financial need and is planning to pursue a degree in math, science, or environmental studies at an accredited Indiana college or university. Download guidelines.

Broadway Scholarship
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide scholarships for students graduating from the Gary Community School Corporation and Andrean High School

D.J. and Rose Nidetz Scholarship
Established to provide scholarship opportunities for high school seniors or college undergraduate students who have participated in productions for member theaters of the Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theater Foundation.
Scholarship Amount: $500
Number of Awards: One (1)
Eligibility: The student’s chosen field of study is the arts (i.e., art, music, theater, dance) and has been involved in a Community Theater production with a current NIETF Theater.

Donna K. Yundt Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of a beloved teacher in the Lake Central Schools. This scholarship is awarded to a student who attended Peifer Elementary School and plans to pursue a degree in elementary education at Ball State University.

Established to enable students from Hammond, Gary, and East Chicago to pursue educational dreams they might have believed unattainable.

Eligibility: Applicants must be graduating high school seniors and reside in Gary, Hammond or East Chicago, Indiana; have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; plan to attend either Indiana University or Indiana University Northwest and pursue a career in either law or banking.

Joshua Benjamin Cohen Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Max and Susan Cohen in memory of their beloved son Joshua. This renewable scholarship is awarded to graduating students from Valparaiso High School who demonstrate a high standard of leadership, academic performance, athletic performance and financial need.
Scholarship Amount: $2,000 for the first year and $1,000 for the next three years

Created to honor the memory of a retired science teacher from the River Forest School Corporation.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship
This prestigious, full-tuition, renewable scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors of Lake County high schools and is based upon academic achievement, leadership, service to others, financial need, a written narrative and an interview.
Scholarship Amount: Full tuition at an Indiana College of your choice and up to $900 a year for books and required equipment
Number of Awards: Up to 6 for Lake County, Indiana
Eligibility: Applicant must be a resident of Lake County, Indiana, a citizen of the United States as of January 2, 2013, and a high school senior as of September 2012 at an accredited Lake County, Indiana high school and thereby eligible to receive a diploma in June 2013.
Applicant must apply for a full time baccalaureate course of study to begin in the fall of 2013 at an accredited public or private college or university in Indiana by the application deadline.

Established by the Pinnick family to continually recognize her dedication and work as an educator in a meaningful and dignified way. Nancy was personally aware of the challenges many students experience in pursuing a college education.

Roger Begnoche Scholarship
Established to encourage a young man to pursue a career in nursing or education. This scholarship was named for a mentor and coach.
Scholarship Amount: $4,000 per year

Established by Centier Bank in 1995, this is a renewable scholarship awarded to students who have achieved academic excellence and leadership in the community and in their schools. It is awarded to a graduating senior in each of the communities served by Centier Bank.

Webster Cornwell Memorial Scholarship
Established by Ruth Cornwell in memory of her husband. This renewable scholarship is awarded each year to a student graduating from Hammond High School.
Scholarship Amount: $1,000 for 4 years
Number of Awards: One (1)
Eligibility: Graduating senior from Hammond High School with a GPA of 2.5 or better and enrolled in a program of study leading to an associate or bachelor degree at an accredited college or university on a full-time basis.

W. James Spicer Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2008 to recognize the teaching career of Mr. James Spicer who taught U.S. History in the Gary Community School Corporation from 1966 through 2007. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at Wirt/Emerson School for the Visual and Performing Arts who will be pursuing higher education and has a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Scholarship Amount: $1,000 (nonrenewable)
